DESCRIPTION:

Restaurant Suiyou offers a one‑of‑a‑kind gastronomic journey through Nara’s ancient food culture, shaped by trade along the Silk Road. Housed in the former Nara Prefectural Governor’s Residence (built 1922), the restaurant uses seasonal Nara ingredients to create a cuisine that feels both traditional and contemporary. Dishes are conceived around “body, mind, and spirit,” with each course tuned to balance texture, aroma, and temperature. On the same site, Sushi & Bar Shousou is an intimate, eight‑seat counter bar inside the former governor’s warehouse providing refinement in a compact, focused setting.

 

MENU DETAILS:

Lunch is served as a multi‑course menu, moving from delicate sashimi or appetizers through grilled, steamed, and simmered dishes, finishing with a simple rice bowl. Dinner is more elaborate, with a clear progression from small plates to a main course centered on seasonal fish or meat. The kitchen leans on traditional techniques, executed with precise, modern attention to detail. At Sushi & Bar Shousou, both lunch and dinner are concise courses, not à la carte. The bar’s limited list of sake and wine is paired to match the compact, focused nature of the service.
